Verifying Your Mark Twain Emails

Scammers are actively targeting our area by impersonating Mark Twain. They use our name and often our logo, to try and trick you.

4 Red Flags to Spot

1

Look for Your Name

THE RULE:
A real bill always greets you by Name (e.g., “JOHN SMITH,”) at the very top.

THE TRAP:
Scammers often skip the name because they don’t know who owns the email address.

2

Check the Sender

THE RULE:
Real billing emails only come from marktwain-noreply@smarthub.coop. Emails from our team use @marktwain.coop

THE TRAP:
If it comes from @gmail.com, @yahoo.com, or anywhere else, delete it.

3

Watch for False Urgency

THE RULE:
Real utilities do not panic you with 30-minute timers. We always provide prior notice by mail.

THE TRAP:
If an email demands you act in minutes, it is a scam.

4

Hover Before You Click

THE RULE:
Hover over the link. It must start with portal.marktwain.net or marktwain.smarthub.coop.

THE TRAP:
If it says ANYTHING OTHER than the above like marktwain.dudaone.com or weebly.com, don’t guess—use the App.

The Official Way to Pay

Scammers can copy our logo, but they cannot fake our app or our address.

1. Use the App

SAFEST OPTION

The best way to pay. It connects securely to us every time. A fake email link cannot trick the app.

2. Go Direct

Never click payment links inside an email. Type our official address directly:

marktwain.smarthub.coop

Address Bar Check:
Must end in .marktwain.net or .smarthub.coop.
